September is National Sewing Month

The local Omaha Chapter of the National Sewing Guild generously volunteered to create a display for our library.

One of our display cases contained pamplets from the American Sewing Guild, sewing notions, books from our library collection and a beautiful pin made from a zipper! The red cloth under the items is actually a beautiful red cape. It was sewn by one of their members as a costume for their son.

In our larger display case, the sewing guild displayed more of their talent with clothing, purses, lampshades and hats.

Not only do they sew beautiful clothing, they also do charity sewing. They sew drawstring bags for the United States troops, They also create Teddy Bears made from items that belonged to hospice patients. The bears are given to family members and special friends as remembrance of their loved ones. They also sew cancer hats, scarves, and anti-ouch pouch pillows for patients undergoing treatment. This is an example of one of the hats.
